Aging is inevitable, but most people want to avoid or reduce visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles, for as long as possible. Facial wrinkles are one of the most visible signs of aging and one of the types of wrinkles that many people are willing to shell out big bucks to postpone. Did you know there are many natural ways to prevent wrinkles, though?

In addition to eliminated common causes from your lifestyle, such as drinking heavily, smoking, and hanging out in the sun without sunscreen, you can prevent wrinkles with these five simple adjustments to your lifestyle. Let’s take a look.

Be Mindful of Facial Expressions

When we say to be mindful of facial expressions, we mean you should try and limit how often you use repeated facial expressions. Try to focus on how often you frown or squint. If you notice you’re repeating a lot of the same facial expressions throughout the day, chances are your skin will begin developing grooves beneath your skin’s surface that will eventually become wrinkles.

Use Sunscreen While Driving

Oftentimes while driving, the sun is shining in through the windows and windshield. To avoid sun damage to your face and arms, apply sunscreen before embarking on your drive, especially if you’ll be traveling a long distance during the middle of the day when the sun’s rays are particularly potent. In addition, put on your sunglasses if the sun is shining in your eyes to avoid squinting, which can cause wrinkles around the eyes over time.

Don’t Sleep on One Side

Another effective way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles is to alternate what side you sleep on at night. When you sleep, your skin crushes against the sheets and blankets, oftentimes resulting in creases on your cheeks, forehead, and chest. Younger skin can bounce back from these creases, but as you age, your skin won’t be able to as efficiently, and this can result in wrinkles. Alternating the side that you sleep on can delay this from happening.

Eat Well

It should go without saying that diets rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals are more likely to result in healthier, more youthful looking skin. That said, a straightforward way to prevent the appearance of wrinkles is to eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables. Olive oil and fish are also great for healthy skin and part of a well-balanced diet.

Don’t Over-Wash Your Face

Unbelievably, there really is no reason to wash your face twice a day unless absolutely necessary. Stick with washing your face once a day because frequent washing can dry out the skin, making it more vulnerable to wrinkles over time.

With simple, all-natural tips like these, you can skip costly procedures and creams and enjoy youthful-looking skin as you age. What are you waiting for? Give some of these tips a try today.
